Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Congress staged a protest in Indore on Saturday, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence over controversial remarks made by two senior BJP leaders about the Indian Army.

During the demonstration, Congress workers symbolically covered a cut-out of the Prime Minister’s mouth and eyes, likening him to the blind king 'Dhritarashtra' from the Mahabharata, implying willful ignorance and inaction.

Led by Congress leaders Vivek Khandelwal and Girish Joshi, the protest accused BJP leaders of competing to make derogatory comments about the armed forces.

They highlighted that Cabinet Minister Vijay Shah had referred to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi as a "sister of terrorists", while Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda claimed that the Indian Army "bows at the feet of the Prime Minister".

The protestors emphasised that despite sharp judicial condemnation, where the High Court labeled Shah’s comment as "gutter-level" and the Supreme Court called it "shameful", the Prime Minister has taken no action.

Khandelwal stated that Modi’s silence suggests tacit approval and raises questions about his stance on national respect for the armed forces.
