Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With the metro’s final inspection wrapped up on Tuesday, the city gears up for rapid transport. Hopes are high, with fingers crossed for a full and final positive report. However, concerns linger in some minds regarding gaps in the metro’s preparedness.

Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) Janak Kumar Garg and other officials inspected a section of the first phase of the Indore Metro Rail Project and tested various arrangements over two days.

An official of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) said on Tuesday that the corporation was eagerly awaiting the final approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to commence commercial operations of the metro rail in Indore.

This approval is crucial, as it will mark the beginning of a new era of modern and efficient public transport in the city, significantly easing urban commuting.

According to the official, a high-level team led by CMRS chief Janak Kumar Garg conducted a detailed inspection of the metro rail project, meticulously evaluating its construction, signal mechanisms, telecommunication systems and other essential arrangements. The inspection focused on the critical corridor extending from Gandhi Nagar station to Station Number Three of the Super Corridor. The two-day assessment, conducted on Monday and Tuesday, ensured that all aspects of the metro system aligned with the prescribed safety and operational standards.

Authorities are hopeful that the metro will receive a green signal soon, paving the way for its commercial launch. Once operational, the metro rail is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and provide a comfortable and time-efficient mode of transportation for Indore’s residents and visitors.

The official said that in the first phase, the metro rail would be run on this 5.90 km corridor in the city. He said that the trial run of metro rail was conducted in September 2023. According to the official, the foundation stone of the first phase of the Indore metro rail project with a total cost of Rs 7,500.80 crore was laid on September 14, 2019.
