Barwani: Bettor arrested with Rs 2,000, women police visited his house as Covid survey workers

He told police not to touch him as he was Covid positive while women in his objected to police presence, saying they are respectable people and that they will call media.

Barwani (Madhya Pradesh): Barwani police arrested a bettor who used to write betting numbers and tried to flee on Saturday by saying that he was Covid positive. Police have recovered Rs 2000 and betting equipment from him on Saturday.

Police said Kapil Tiwari, resident of Maulana Azad Marg, was writing betting numbers at his house. After receiving this information, Barwani police station incharge Rajesh Yadav asked women police team to visit Tiwari’s house in civil clothes as Asha workers to conduct a survey for Covid-19.

The other policemen hid near the house of Tiwari. The women police knocked on his door. When a woman opened the door, Tiwari was seen writing betting numbers on paper slips.

On receiving hint, policemen entered the house and nabbed Kapil Tiwari. He told police not to touch him as he was Covid positive while women in his objected to police presence, saying they are respectable people and that they will call media.

When Kapil Tiwari’s mobile phone rang, Assistant Sub-Inspector RK Lavvanshi, took the phone and put it on speaker mode. The person on the other end was talking about betting numbers. More such phone calls came in presence of police.

After searching Kapil Tiwari, carbon slips with 3 betting numbers and Rs 2,000 were found from his shirt pocket. When questioned, he told police that he works under bettor Lokesh alias Lekhu Soni, resident of Sawantpura Colony in Barwani on commission basis and wrote betting numbers for him.

The police have registered a case against Kapil Tiwari and Lekhu Soni.
