Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Sena has demanded that the Indore Development Authority (IDA) scrap the proposed Ahilyapath scheme at its upcoming board meeting, alleging that the plan could further reduce the cultivable land available to farmers in several villages around Indore.
Organisation president Bablu Jadhav and state vice-president Shailendra Patel said the inclusion or acquisition of remaining agricultural land for the scheme would not be acceptable to farmers.
They claimed that farmers from Nainod, Rislai, Budhaniya, Bada Bangarda, Palakhedi, Limbodagari, Revati and Bardari, among other villages, had already parted with hundreds of acres for projects including Super Corridor, Medical Hub, Housing Board developments, TPS-10 and the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Highway.
The organisation questioned the need for another land-based scheme in the name of Simhastha 2028, pointing out that the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Highway is already being developed to improve connectivity and traffic movement between the two cities. It sought a clear explanation from the government on why additional agricultural land is required.
The farmers body also cited concerns in IDA records regarding the feasibility of obtaining 60% land through the Town Planning Scheme (TPS) process, describing the target as difficult to achieve. It alleged that despite earlier reconsideration at the government level and objections raised by farmers, the proposal was still being pursued.
Jadhav said development should involve farmers land only when it is genuinely necessary, justified and in the public interest.
The organisation also claimed that the proposed scheme has restricted affected farmers from freely using, developing or selling their land, causing financial losses and mental stress.
The group warned that failure to withdraw the scheme could lead to a phased and intensified protest, with affected farmers taking to the streets. It said the IDA and the state government would be responsible for any resulting agitation.
