Kolkata: Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court on Tuesday after resigning from his post said that he will join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 7.

Talking to the media, the former Justice sarcastically mentioned that he got ‘inspired’ from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and is joining politics.

“TMC is corruption and corruption is TMC. It is the only national party which is fighting against TMC. I believe in God for which I didn’t go to CPI (M) and Congress I believe is the property of one family. After I resigned three lawyers came and said that they have documents about fake job cards and they have said that they will send me those documents,” said the former Justice.

Former Justice Gangopadhyay also mentioned that TMC will not last till 2026.

“When BJP approached me and likewise I didn’t take much time. There are tremors inside TMC. Just like the condition that CPI (M) faced in 2009, TMC is facing the same in 2024,” added Gangopadhyay.

Asked if he would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, to which Gangopadhyay said it would be decided by the election committee of the party.

“The party will decide whether I will contest the poll or not. Even if I contest against a person who is called the Senapati of TMC I will fight and will win over lakhs of votes. The Senapati of TMC through his relative had tricked the Narada bribery scam just to step inside the political arena,” further state the former Justice.

The former Justice also claimed that he thinks that TMC is ‘not’ a political party.

“Trinamool is a Jatra (drama) party. Their drama’s name is Ma Mati Manush. Just like there are several characters in a drama, the same is there in TMC,” said Gangopadhyay.

TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that the mentality of the Justice matched with the saffron camp as even leaders of BJP don't ‘take’ his name while referring to him.
