Asansol: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during his maiden visit to Asansol on Tuesday after TMC won the Asansol Lok Sabha seat for the first time slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly bulldozing the public mandate in Maharashtra.

“No action is taken against those who spread hatred and violence. But action is taken against people like social activist Teesta Setalvad and others. We will not spare those who speak against religion. We will take action against them,” said Mamata without mentioning the name of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

It can be noted that Narkeldanga and Amherst Street police station had summoned Nupur but citing ‘death threat’ Nupur had sought some more time from the Kolkata police.

Taking further potshots at the BJP-led Central government, Mamata alleged that the social media of BJP creates ‘fake’ videos to mislead people by giving a false narrative.

“The BJP misleads people by making fake videos and those who protest against them are harassed by central agencies like CBI, Income tax, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other agencies. Those who create animosity among communities are not even touched by BJP,” further mentioned Mamata.

The Chief Minister also criticized the Central government over the Agnipath defence recruiting scheme while speaking to a party meeting in Asansol.

“Our government gives jobs to people for a minimum of 60 years of age. But this Agnipath scheme is just like a dustbin. What will the person do after four years of job? What will they do for the rest of their lives? I would demand the central government to extend the tenure till the age of 60 if not 65. Some cornell had written to the state government that after four years the Agniveers should be given a job by the state government but I will not clean the dustbin of BJP,” slammed Mamata also mentioning that she would first provide jobs to the people of her state.

Mamata also slammed BJP for ‘privatization’ of railways and airways and also stated that she would ‘prevent’ the privatization’.

Congratulating the actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, Mamata said that Sinha had said ‘Khamosh’ to BJP after winning the Asansol Lok Sabha bypoll by a huge mandate.

The Chief Minister also added that she would develop Asansol, Durgapur, Raniganj more and also that more industrial hubs are being set up in these areas which would in turn generate several employment opportunities.
