A two-year-old boy was killed in a tragic incident at a bus stand in Haveri on Tuesday morning after a state transport bus allegedly rammed into passengers waiting on a platform, leaving one toddler dead and three others seriously injured.
The incident occurred around 7 am at the central bus station when commuters had gathered near the Savanur platform to board buses. According to eyewitnesses, a bus arriving for Savanur lost control due to overspeeding and negligent driving, crashing into people standing on the platform.
In the impact, a two-year-old child, Hazrat Ali, who was present with his parents, sustained critical injuries. He was initially rushed to the district hospital in Haveri and later shifted to KIMS Hospital for advanced treatment. However, the child succumbed to injuries during treatment, leaving his family devastated.
Three others, identified as Vasudev (44), Harsha (6), and Kavyanjali (39) from Bankapur, were also seriously injured in the incident. They are currently undergoing treatment at the Haveri district hospital.
Eyewitnesses blamed the bus driver’s rash and negligent driving for the accident, expressing anger over safety lapses at the busy bus stand.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, capturing the moment the bus veered onto the platform and struck waiting passengers. Police from Haveri visited the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case against the driver.
