Lucknow: An FIR has been registered against the Vice-Chancellor of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and three doctors following a court directive in a case involving alleged unauthorized sterilization.

The complaint, filed at Chowk police station on June 13, names KGMU Vice-Chancellor and doctors Amita Pandey, Monika Agarwal, Nida Khan, and Shivani. All of whom have been booked under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life), 467, 468 (forgery), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The case dates back to October 4, 2022, when Hemwati Nandan of Shahabad Ratanpur Anjhi (Hardoi) admitted his pregnant wife Uma Mishra to Queen Mary’s Hospital, Lucknow. After delivering a baby boy via surgery, the newborn was placed on a ventilator and subsequently died.

Nandan alleges that Uma was sterilized during the procedure without consent and that forged signatures were used on the consent form. He claims that no explanation was provided and that Uma was discharged on October 10, 2022.

After receiving no response to repeated complaints, including to the CM portal and police officials, Nandan approached the court. KGMU spokesperson Dr. K.K. Singh said the university is reviewing the matter and stands with its doctors, indicating legal support if needed.
