In 2014 the state of Telangana came into existence, having been bifurcated from Andhra Pradesh. Since then, June 2 is marked every year as Telangana Formation Day, with thousands marking the occasion. While offline celebrations have been severely curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic, political leaders and ordinary netizens on Wednesday took to social media to extend their greetings.
"Best wishes to the people of Telangana on the stateβs Formation Day. The state is blessed with a unique culture and hardworking people who have excelled in many areas. Praying for the good health and well-being of the people of Telangana," tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Greetings to all especially to the people of Telangana on Statehood Day. I wish Telangana continues to expand its traditional, modern & futuristic industries. It has fulfilled the national objective of providing water to every home. Wishing a bright future for the people of state," wrote President Ram Nath Kovind.
Taking to Facebook, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao marked Telangana State's eighth formation day by paying homage to those who had played a role in the movement to achieve statehood. Visuals shared online showed the Chief Minister hoisting the National Flag at Pragathi Bhavan and paying floral tribute at Gun Park.
"Telangana pays homage to the martyrs of Statehood movement through comprehensive development of all sections of people. In the last seven years, the State excelled to become the pride of nation and serve as a role model to other Indian States! Happy 8th State Formation Day!" read a tweet from the CMO's office.
"Heartiest wishes to all on the occasion of the Telangana State Formation Day. Tributes to all those martyrs, who laid down their lives for the cause of Telangana. Wishing the Telangana State a great success on the path of progress and prosperity," tweeted Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
