Chennai: Following a recent incident where petrol bombs were thrown outside the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan, a police complaint has been lodged by Governor R N Ravi's office against ruling DMK leaders. The complaint accuses the leaders of attempting to "overawe" the constitutional head of the state and hamper his functioning.
Attack on Governor
The Deputy Secretary to the Governor and Comptroller filed the complaint with the Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police. The complaint urges the police to register a case under Section 124 of the IPC and other relevant laws. It calls for a thorough investigation to ensure appropriate punishment for all individuals involved, including those conspiring behind the attacks, and demands proper security for the Governor.
The complaint highlighted previous threats made by DMK leaders and their allies, both verbally at public meetings and on social media, aimed at intimidating the Hon’ble Governor and hindering him from performing his constitutional duties. One specific incident cited occurred on April 18, 2022, when the Governor's convoy was physically attacked with sticks and stones while he was en route to a scheduled function at the Dharmapuram Adhinam. Despite a complaint filed by the Raj Bhavan, no FIR was registered, and no action was taken against the assailants.
