Chandigarh: Gangster Deepak Tinu, one of the key accused in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case was nabbed by Delhi police from Ajmer in Rajasthan on Wednesday.

According to official information, even though a Punjab police team was also in Ajmer on a lookout for the accused, the Delhi police succeeded in nabbing him.

Inspector general of police (IGP), Punjab, M S Chinna, who headed a special team constituted to trace Tinu told newspersons that the Punjab police would soon bring the accused to Punjab for cases registered against him in the state.

It may be recalled that Tinu had escaped from the custody of Mansa police’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) late October 1, night. The CIA in-charge Pritpal Singh was dismissed from service for the grave lapses leading to Tinu’s escape.

According to information, Pritpal had taken Tinu in his private car from the CIA office to his official residence, where Tinu was left alone to meet his girlfriend in a private room while Pritpal went to another room. This gave Tinu and his girlfriend ample time and space to flee from the spot.

It is pertinent to mention here that Tinu is among the 24 accused whose names figure in the chargesheet filed by the Mansa police in sensational Moosewala murder case. Tinu was brought from Delhi on a transit remand from Tihar Jail on July 4 for interrogation in the said murder case.

He was accused of providing support to connect Bishnoi gang leader – Lawrence Bishnoi -, who was also lodged in Tihar Jail, to another notorious gangster Goldy Brar, the mastermind hiding abroad, for execution of Moosewala’s murder.

Meanwhile, in a fresh development, gangster Bishnoi and his aide Deepak Tinu were booked on Tuesday night for threatening to kill a Ferozepur resident if he did not pay Rs 1 crore for sparing his life.

According to information, the complainant, Sukhbir Singh Brar, said he had received threatening calls from international phone numbers and the caller identified himself as Deepak Tinu. Later, over a conference call, another man, who called himself Bishnoi, told him to follow Tinu’s instructions.

Tinu’s girlfriend, who helped him flee from police custody, was arrested from the Mumbai airport on October 10.
