Bengaluru : Heard of Elphies? Well, that is what happened in the Bandipur forest of Karnataka.
While selfies may be free, a couple who tried to take an ‘elphie’ in Bandipur forest in Karnataka with an elephant and her calf in the background had to pay a price — a costly one.
According to a local daily, a couple travelling towards Ooty through the thickly forested Bandipur area spotted an elephant and its calf nearby. They parked their car and decided to take a selfie, rather an ‘elphie’, with the elephant and its calf in the backdrop.
The elephant did not mind the first couple of elphies, but when the flash became frequent, the pachyderm decided to charge — both in kind and cash. It got wild and made a charge to wards the couple who ran like cheetahs for their life.
That was when the elephant spotted the car’s windows open. It coolly put its trunk in and devoured a leather bag containing ATM and credit cards, cash, gold and some eats.
The mother and baby stood for some time, gave a good kick to the car, and slowly vanished into the forest. The scenes were captured by a Kerala-based wildlife photographer.
