'Security Forces Have Eliminated 118 Maoists Over Past Decade,' Says Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi

In a written response to BJP MLA Kanhai Charan Danga, Majhi stated that between 2015 and January 25, 2025, security operations resulted in the deaths of 118 CPI (Maoist) cadres. Additionally, a joint anti-Maoist operation by the Odisha and Chhattisgarh Police neutralized 17 more insurgents, including a central committee member.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly on Monday that security forces have eliminated 118 Maoists in the state over the past decade.

In a written response to BJP MLA Kanhai Charan Danga, Majhi stated that between 2015 and January 25, 2025, security operations resulted in the deaths of 118 CPI (Maoist) cadres. Additionally, a joint anti-Maoist operation by the Odisha and Chhattisgarh Police neutralized 17 more insurgents, including a central committee member.

Over the same period, security forces arrested 315 individuals linked to Maoist activities, while 238 militants and militia members surrendered. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state aims to eradicate the Maoist threat by 2026.

To counter-insurgency, Odisha has deployed 72 companies of central armed forces, 32 special security battalions, 35 Special Operation Group (SOG) teams, around 600 District Volunteer Force (DVF) personnel, 75 platoons of India Reserve Battalion, and over 350 Odisha Special Striking Force personnel in affected regions. Security forces are also conducting area domination operations based on intelligence inputs.

Odisha CM Highlights Advancements In Counterinsurgency Efforts

Highlighting advancements in counterinsurgency efforts, Majhi noted that security personnel are equipped with modern technology, including drones, UAV interceptors, advanced weaponry, and upgraded communication systems. Company operational bases have also been established in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) zones to strengthen security.

Regarding rehabilitation, the Chief Minister outlined the state’s ‘Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy,’ which offers benefits such as marriage assistance, stipends for education, homestead land, and housing aid for surrendered Maoists meeting eligibility criteria. Additionally, surrendered cadres receive vocational training with a stipend of ₹6,000 per month for up to 36 months.

Majhi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating Maoist influence and ensuring long-term stability in Odisha.
