Hundreds of people gathered in a funeral procession in Jaipur on Monday, despite the Covid lockdown. Cases have been registered against 11 people including a Congress MLA for violation of the Epidemic Act.
This was a funeral procession of a social worker Haji Rafat Ali who died of a heart attack. A Congress MLA Rafeek Khan was among hundreds who attended the funeral procession of the social worker. Police officials were also seen to manage the procession rather than to stop it.
Although later on cases were registered against the MLA and some others for violation of protocol and lockdown rules and Epidemic Act.
Haji Rafat Ali was known for his social work and had appealed to the people to not take out Eid procession during Covid. People listened to him and no Eid procession took place in the city.
The case against MLA Rafeek Khan will be handed over to CID, said police officials. Meanwhile, Khan said that it is the failure of the police and now they are targeting a public representative. He said, "I tried to stop the gathering but people were so emotionally attached to the deceased that such crowd gathered."
