Jaipur: To populate Mukandra Hills Tiger Reserve near Kota, Rajasthan, a female cub was released here on Wednesday. With this, the number of big cats in this Reserve has reached to three.
DFO Mukandra Muthu S said that the female cub was released in five hectare soft enclosure in Mukandra. There are two enclosures for the prey base near it where the Prey bases have already been released.
The female cub belongs to the family of tigress T114 of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. The cub was born in November 2022 in Ranthambore Reserve. After the demise of Tigress T 114, her two cubs (male and female) were brought to Kota's Abheda Biological Park on 1 February 2023. At that time, the cubs were of the age of two and a half months. Foresters took care of them in the park. Now both have become young.
National Tiger Conservation Authority had already permitted their release but, permission from the Government of India was awaited which was received a few days ago. After which the male cub was released on December 4 in Bundi's Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve, while, after 7 days, the female cub was released in Mukandra on Wednesday.
The Mukandra Hills Tiger Reserve situated near Kota has only one pair of tigers until now which are.known as MT5 and MT6. With the release of the female cub in Mukandra, their number has increased to three.
Mukundara Reserve is adjacent to Ranthambore. There are two separate corridors from Ranthambore to Mukundhra via Ramgarh Vishdhari Century and Indergarh. The Tigers of Ranthambore have their movement in this corridor. The environment and climate here is best for the tiger, but somehow it can not settle down as expected.
Here, shifting of tigers was started in 2018. In the last six years, two tigers including their cubs have gone missing while three have died. Now again the efforts are being made to populate the Reserve.
