MP: Tiger Kills Woman In Core Area Of Panna Tiger Reserve; Movement Under Watch

Panna Tiger Reserve director Anjana Suchita said four women entered prohibited core area of the reserve to cut the grass.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A sub adult tiger killed a 65-year-old woman when she was cutting grass for cattle in the core area of Panna Tiger Reserve on Monday morning. The forest officials recovered her body with the help of elephants.

Panna Tiger Reserve director Anjana Suchita said four women entered prohibited core area of the reserve to cut the grass. A sub adult tiger attacked one of them and killed her. The compensation will be provided to the next kin of deceased.

In the meantime, the movement of tiger is being monitored with help of elephants. The deceased woman was identified as Fulia Bai (65) wife of Mangu Sahu. She was resident of Hinota village. Sources in Panna Tiger Reserve said it was about 10.30 am that some women ran towards guide Arun Kumar and said that a tiger had attacked one of their companions.

He passed on the information to forest officials who immediately rushed to the spot along with elephant squad. During the search, the body was recovered. “The sub adult tiger recently separated from its mother and its behaviour is unpredictable. We are keeping a close watch on its movement,” said a forest officer.
