New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech was disrupted by Opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha, he is now expected to speak in the Rajya Sabha today (February 5) at 5 pm, where the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address has taken place without any disruption.
On Wednesday, ruckus erupted in the Lower House as women Opposition MPs charged towards the Prime Minister's seat holding banners ahead of his scheduled speech, leading to the adjournment of proceedings for the day. PM Modi was not present in the House at the time of the incident.
When the Opposition MPs charged towards PM Modi's chair, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member P P Chaudhary was making his remarks on the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address when the Opposition members trooped into the Well of the House.
What Exactly Happened In The Lower House Before PM Modi's Address:
When the House met at 5:00 PM after three adjournments, BJP member Sandhya Rai, who was in the chair, called Chaudhary to make his remarks on the Motion.
Soon, the women members of the Opposition trooped into the Well and made their way to the Treasury benches, protesting against the trade deal with the US and former Army chief M M Naravane's 'unpublished' book. The presiding officer then adjourned the proceedings for the day.
Notably, the Lok Sabha is facing disruptions after Rahul Gandhi quoted a magazine article based on unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief General (Retd) Manoj Mukund Naravane on the Ladakh standoff to target the Narendra Modi government on Monday (February 2).
On Wednesday, eight Opposition members were suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of the Budget Session for allegedly violating House rules and throwing papers at the Speaker’s chair after Gandhi's address was allegedly disrupted by BJP MPs in the House.
