GANDHINAGAR : After the communal conflagration in Vadodara, it is now the turn of Ahmedabad to face the heat.
Trouble which erupted in Shahpur area of Ahmedabad on Sunday turned fatal on Monday when one of the injured died on Monday.
The police fired more than 70 teargas shells to quell mobs indulging in vicious stone pelting.
The trouble reportedly began when a police team entered the Shahpur area to search for one of the accused of Saturday’s skirmishes between the cops and some butchers. It being the eve of Eid-ul-Zuha things soon snowballed into a full-pitched attack on the police which burst teargas shells to control the situation.
On Saturday, a police posse chasing cow poachers who had gone into the area after breaking a police barricade that tried to stop a mini-truck suspected to be carrying milch cattle was stoned by a mob.Though four people were arrested for this, some others are absconding.
The police presence has been beefed up. More than 200 policemen, along with personnel of the city crime branch and State Reserve Police (SRP),have been deployed. An uneasy peace reigns.
