New Delhi: The central government is set to present the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha tomorrow, with plans to get it passed in the lower house on the same day. However, opposition parties have come together in a show of unity to oppose the bill, declaring it as unconstitutional.

Ahead of the bill’s introduction, opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc held a meeting in Delhi, where they decided to strongly oppose the bill together.

Following the meeting, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule addressed the media, stating, "This is a matter of principles. In a strong democracy, the country does not run by anyone’s will but by the Constitution. We will participate in the discussion, listen to them, and stand by the truth and the Constitution. The INDI Alliance had a very good discussion, and tomorrow, we will be united with full strength in the debate."

Congress MP K C Venugopal also criticised the bill, saying, "Right from the introduction stage, the INDI Alliance parties, along with other like-minded parties, are opposing the anti-constitutional provisions of the Waqf Amendment Bill. This bill is essentially a targeted legislation and fundamentally violates constitutional principles. We cannot support provisions that go against the Constitution."

Echoing similar concerns, DMK MP Kanimozhi affirmed the opposition’s unity, stating, "The INDIA alliance stands as one. We will come together and oppose this bill as parties that believe in secularism and the protection of both minorities and the majority in the country. We will stand together to protect the Constitution."
