Continuous rainfall affected Assam and its capital, Guwahati, on Friday, leading to considerable waterlogging that interrupted daily activities and transportation. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the condition was critical and expected to persist on Saturday because of the heavy rain affecting Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.

As a result, leave was provided to state government workers in Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts, and educational institutions were shut down. Locations like Rukminigaon, Beltola Survey, and Geetanagar faced significant flooding. Further details are awaited.

The Chief Minister mentioned an upcoming meeting with the Meghalaya Chief Minister to address concerns about hill cutting, which leads to floods and landslides in the area. The Regional Meteorological Centre declared a red alert for multiple districts in Assam, signaling serious weather threats.

Guwahati has experienced landslides in the Bonda area due to incessant rain, resulting in the deaths of three women. On the outskirts of Guwahati, continuous rain caused a landslide, killing three women. Minister Jayanta Malla Hazarika confirmed rescue efforts are underway amid severe waterlogging in the city. Meanwhile, Lakhimpur faces flooding from heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, displacing families, and necessitating shelter in tents and relief camps. Rescue teams are active.

A looming low-pressure system over the Northwest Bay of Bengal might strengthen, possibly resulting in more heavy rain and thunderstorms in Assam.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority cautioned inhabitants about potential hazards, such as waterlogging and localized landslides. The Indian Meteorological Department announced a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya, forecasting very heavy rainfall, while an orange alert was issued for various other northeastern states.

The forecast for Delhi indicated temperatures between 27 and 38 degrees Celsius, with expectations of thunderstorms and strong winds. In similar news, three people lost their lives in northeastern states from rain-related events, including one death from a wall falling in Aizawl, Mizoram.
