The 3-day Nav Sankalp Shivir of the Congress party in Udaipur begins with a strong statement made by party president Sonia Gandhi who said ‘ we are in dire need of reforms, change in strategy and day-to-day functioning. Resurgence is possible only with the right direction and collective effort and it won’t be avoided.’

In her brief but impressive welcome speech for the Shivir, Sonia Gandhi not only lashed out at the policies of the Central government but also reiterated the need for introspection. ``In this Shivir we will not only do Chintan about the challenges the country is facing due to the policies of the BJP ruled Central government but also do ‘Aatm Chintan’ for the party,’ said Sonia.

She said to party workers and leaders that the party has given you everything and now it is time to do something for the party leaving aside your personal aspirations. ‘The time has come in the long and golden history of the party that we have to leave aside our personal ambitions as the party has given us a lot and it is time to pay it back,’ said Sonia Gandhi.

Targeting voices of dissent in the party Sonia said, ‘express yourself freely but only one message should go outside and it should be of unity, determination and organization's strength.’

Sonia said that we are well aware of our failures, struggle and expectations of people and are determined to take the party back to its glorious position once again. ``We are introspecting here with full humility but we should decide that we leave from here with new self-confidence and full of energy,’ said the Congress president.

In her inaugural address, Congress President slammed the Bjp over the recent violence against minorities and said that the saffron party was targeting people belonging to a certain section and glorifying Mahatma Gandhi’s killers.

“By now it has become abundantly and painfully clear what PM Modi and his colleagues really mean by their slogan ‘maximum governance, minimum government’. It means keeping the country in a permanent state of polarisation, compelling people to live in a constant state of fear and insecurity, viciously targeting and victimizing and often brutalizing minorities who are an integral part of our society,’ said Sonia Gandhi.

She continued by saying ‘It means wholesale re-invention of history, constant denigration of leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru, and a systematic move to destroy their achievements and sacrifices while glorifying the killers of Mahatma Gandhi & their ideologues.

She targets PM Modi and said that the government uses fear to make bureaucracy, corporates, civil society & sections of the media fall in line. ``There are more empty slogans & diversionary tactics & utter silence on the part of the eloquent PM when healing touch is most needed,” said Sonia Gandhi.

She alleged BJP for its divisive politics and said, ‘Indians want to live in an atmosphere of peace, amity and harmony. BJP, its cohorts and surrogates want to keep people in a perpetual state of frenzy. They constantly provoke, instigate, and inflame. We have to combat this virus of divisiveness which is being maliciously spread.’
