Haryana Narcotics Bureau Launches Awareness Podcast To Combat Rising Drug Abuse |

Chandigarh: In a first, the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) has launched a podcast series with an aim to spread awareness against drugs and act as a bridge between the people and the police.

In its first edition, O P Singh, director general (DG), HSNCB, hosted two deputy superintendent of police (DSPs) – Jagbir Singh and Satyender – from the bureau - and discussed with them the most pressing challenges confronting the anti-drug drive in Haryana – the rising misuse of pharmaceutical drugs as affordable alternatives to harder-to-source drugs like heroin and opium and the network of inter-state drug trafficking. They observed that pharmaceutical drug abuse has also been on rise.

The DSPs also explained in the podcast how the drug smugglers have started exploiting the legal loopholes maintain their supply chains that make these drugs available on the black market. The gullible youths often get vulnerable due to the low cost and easy availability, they explained. They also spoke about the inter-state drug trafficking which is also a matter of concern for Haryana because of its strategic location.

The next edition of the podcast would focus on the rehabilitation of addicts and drug-de-addiction initiatives.

Meanwhile, according to information, the state police had till last month registered 233 commercial quantity drugs cases against 166 cases of last year.
