With some Hindu organisations insisting on taking out religious procession "Brijmandal Shobha Yatra" in communally sensitive Nuh district of Haryana on August 28 despite the denial of government’s permission, the government has suspended the mobile internet services, besides taking several other steps to prevent any disturbances of public order in the district.
It may be recalled that Nuh had witnessed communal violence on July 31 last which claimed six lives and massive damage to public and private properties. The district had initially remained under curfew for a few days but it had later been relaxed from 6 am till 8 pm (14 hours). However, heavy police deployment is still there in Nuh.
While the state government on Saturday ordered temporary suspension of mobile internet services, all SMS services in Nuh till August 28 midnight, the district administration has ordered the rural and town bodies to set up "Thikri Pehra" (patrolling) in all the villages and towns of Nuh district till Monday.
The Nuh district magistrate Dhirendra Khadgata also said the prohibition on carrying of deadly weapons and assembly of five or more persons in public places had been ordered to maintain law and order till August 28, 2023 in light of the "Yatra".
DGP holds meeting
Meanwhile, Haryana director general of police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur held meeting with senior police officers of bordering states through video conferencing here and called for a coordinated effort to effectively deal with the situation.
In the meeting, which was attended by the senior police officers of states of Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chandigarh, Kapur said that Nuh administration had denied permission to the organisers of Yatra in wake of meeting of G20 Sherpa group scheduled to be held in Nuh from September 3 to 7 and to maintain law and order situation in the aftermath of violence that took place on July 31, 2023.
He said that yet there were inputs that certain organisations had invited people from Haryana and other neighboring states to reach Nuh on August 28.
Police team attacked
Meanwhile, according to media reports, a police team was attacked on Friday when they raided Singar village in Nuh district to arrest a suspect, Irshad, involved in the July 31 communal violence.
Stating that after he was initially nabbed from a bus stand, some of the locals got into an altercation with the police team and fled with Irshad to the village, the reports said that when more police force including women police personnel was called, where they were also attacked leaving sub-inspector Vineet and constable Amar Singh, injured and the police had to fire in the air to disperse the attackers.
