New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Saturday, extended the Judicial Custody of Delhi's former deputy CM Manish Sisodia till July 15 in the CBI case of Excise Policy case.
Kejriwal Sent To Custody Till July 12
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, July 3, a Delhi court extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until July 12 in connection with a money laundering case related to the scrapped excise policy of 2021-22. Kejriwal appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court via video conferencing.
The court also reserved its decision on Kejriwal’s request for his wife’s presence during his medical consultations with a special board constituted by AIIMS, as ordered by the court on April 22. The ruling on this request will be announced on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
Previously, on June 29, Kejriwal was remanded to judicial custody until July 12 following a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had arrested him on June 26. Earlier in the day, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader sought bail from the Delhi High Court in the corruption case registered by the CBI concerning the alleged excise policy scam.
His counsel, Rajat Bharadwaj, called for an urgent hearing before a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, arguing that Kejriwal’s arrest did not comply with Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The court responded by scheduling the plea for review, stating, “Let the learned judge go through the papers. We will have it day after.”
The high court agreed to hear the bail application on Friday.
Kejriwal was initially arrested by the CBI on June 26 from Tihar Jail, where he remains in judicial custody for a related money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Delhi chief minister was first detained by the ED on March 21 and later granted bail by the trial court in the money laundering case on June 20. However, the trial court's bail order was later stayed by the high court.
