Elgar Parishad - Bhima Koregaon case: NIA arrests Sagar Gorkhe and Ramesh Gaichor

On Monday, the National Investigation Agency arrested two members of the Kabir Kala Manch, Sagar Gorkhe and Ramesh Gaichor in connection with the the Elgar Parishad - Bhima Koregaon case.

Earlier in the day, The Free Press Journal's Bhavna Uchil had reported that the NIA had summoned poet Varavara Rao’s sons-in-law, K Satyanarayana and KV Kurmanath, asking them to appear before it on 9 September.

K Satyanarayana is a professor at the department of cultural studies at The English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad while KV Kurmanath is a senior journalist.

Varavara Rao and nine other activists have been arrested by Maharashtra police in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case which was initially probed by the Pune police and transferred to the NIA in January this year. Since then, several other individuals have also been arrested in connection with the case, with Monday's developments bringing the total to 14.

Gorkhe and Gaichor - both singers and anti-caste activists had also been part of the "Bhima Koregaon Shaurya Din Prerana Abhiyan" and the Kabir Kala Manch.
