A 31-year-old software engineer employed with Adobe was allegedly beaten to death by members of his wife’s family following a domestic dispute at his residence in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area on Friday, August 21.

The victim, identified as Vinay Gupta, had been married for around three-and-a-half years and was the father of four-and-a-half-month-old twins, a boy and a girl.

According to India Today, Gupta’s wife was a homemaker and the couple had reportedly argued over administering medicine to one of their infants on Friday morning.

Wife Allegedly Returns With Relatives

Following the argument, Gupta’s wife reportedly left the house and contacted her family. She allegedly returned around 10 minutes later along with several relatives, including her brothers, sister-in-law, father and uncle.

The group allegedly confronted Gupta at the residence, where a violent assault reportedly followed.

Times of India reported, citing the victim’s family and police sources, that Gupta was allegedly punched and kicked during the assault. His family has also alleged that he was strangled and suffered severe injuries to his chest.

The victim’s family has described the incident as a “calculated conspiracy” arising from what they claimed was a minor domestic dispute.

Mother Returns To Find Son Being Assaulted

Gupta’s mother reportedly told police that she had briefly stepped out to arrange water and refreshments for the relatives. When she returned, she allegedly found her son being assaulted.

She reportedly tried to intervene and raised an alarm, but the assault continued. Gupta was subsequently rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead, according to reports.

The victim’s family has also alleged that CCTV cameras inside the house were switched off before the assault. Police are examining the claim as part of the investigation.

Four Detained, Murder Case Registered

Delhi Police have detained four people in connection with the case, including Gupta’s wife and three relatives, according to Times of India.

A case has been registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and acts carried out with common intention.

Investigators are questioning the detained persons and examining the sequence of events. Police are also collecting CCTV footage and other evidence to establish what happened inside the house.

Probe Underway

Gupta reportedly worked as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida, with reports putting his annual compensation at around ₹60 lakh.

The investigation remains underway, with police working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the assault, the roles of those detained and whether the attack was pre-planned, as alleged by the victim’s family.
