Tiruchirappalli: A policeman was reportedly injured during Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay’s roadshow in Trichy on Thursday, as a crowd of thousands of supporters gathered ahead of his nomination filing in Tiruchirappalli. The injured officer has been identified as Satish.
A video from the spot shows the officer, who reportedly sustained a leg injury, writhing in pain as party volunteers lift him and clear a path to a nearby ambulance. The footage further shows him being treated inside the ambulance.
Satish was part of the security arrangement at Marakkadai Junction near Gandhi Market, where Vijay addressed supporters and conducted campaign activities. A case has been registered.
Vijay will contest against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidates R.D. Sekar in Perambur and Inigo S. Irudayaraj in Trichy East.
Earlier on Monday, Vijay filed his nomination from the Perambur constituency in Chennai and urged voters to support his party’s whistle symbol in the 23 April elections, expressing confidence in forming the government.
The Perambur seat was historically considered a bastion of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) until 2016. R.D. Sekar has represented the seat since winning a by-election in 2019.
