Raipur: In response to the rising crime rate, Durg police have decided to take an innovative approach by creating a comprehensive database of beggars in the district.

According to a recent directive, the database will include detailed profiles of beggars, capturing information about their origin, residence, and the circumstances that led them to beg. The primary goal of this database is to monitor their activities and prevent people from falling into a life of begging.

The letter from the SP to the police station and outpost in-charges emphasizes the importance of verifying the records of beggars as part of efforts to reduce begging in the district.

This action follows a letter from Aam Aadmi Party leader Jaspreet Singh to the SP, in which he highlighted that although there are laws against begging in the country, they are not being effectively enforced.

He pointed out the growing incidents of drug use, illegal liquor trade, and thefts in the market. Singh also noted that some beggars, especially those from other states, have criminal records and may be using begging as a cover for committing crimes.
