Unlike what many exit polls predicted, the Bhartiya Janata Party, as per EC latest trends on Sunday afternoon, is leading in the Hindi heartland state of Chhattisgarh with 54 seats. On the other hand, the grand old Congress party which was all set to retain power in the state is currently trailing with leads on 34 seats. The halfway mark for the 90-member assembly of Chhattisgarh is 46. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s return to a second term in power seems hopeful as he maintains leads over BJP’s Vijay Baghel in Patan constituency.
As BJP leads in Chhattisgarh, former CM of Chhattisgarh, Raman Singh said, "There is a clear support for the BJP in trends. The anger of people has been reflected in voting. BJP will form the government in all three states with an absolute majority..."
BJP soars ahead
The Baghel-led Congress party, in its campaign banked on the various welfare schemes in which they claimed to have spent over ₹1.75 lakh crore, however, BJP targeted it with allegation of corruption with star campaigners, including PM Modi attacking the Baghel government over Enforcement Directorate cases such as coal levy, Mahadev betting app case, and illegal liquor sale.
