Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Saturday granted bail pertaining to all cases to one of the kingpins of Saradha ponzi scam Debjani Mukherjee. Debjani has received the bail against two lakh rupees bond and she received bail in the cases that were filed in West bengal.
It is pertinent to mention that Debjani was a close aide of Sudipta Sen, the main accused in the case, and second in command in his company.
Mukherjee, the director of the Saradha group of companies, still has multiple cases related to the ponzi scheme pending against her in Jharkhand, Assam and Odisha and has not been granted any relief there and the cases in those states will be continuing. She is currently in Alipore Women’s Correctional Home.
The Saradha ponzi scam, a major financial fraud scam spanning several states of eastern India, duped several people across several eastern states. Saradha Group, was engaged in fraudulent operations, used to run lucrative investment schemes to lure people.
It can also be recalled that TMC Spokesperson and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh, a co-accused, in the same case, was granted interim bail by this court on October 5, 2016.
