A surge in mosquito infestation across Hyderabad has triggered widespread concern among residents, with complaints pouring in about large swarms entering homes, especially during evenings.
Citizens have been sharing videos on social media over the past few days, highlighting the alarming situation across multiple localities. The growing menace has also sparked sharp criticism from opposition parties and netizens, who have accused the government and civic authorities of failing to act effectively.
Amid the escalating concerns, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Devireddy Sudheer Reddy, staged a unique protest on Thursday near the Assembly media point. The MLA arrived wearing a full-body outfit stitched from mosquito net fabric and carrying a fogging machine, drawing attention from both media and the public.
However, marshals reportedly stopped him, citing lack of permission, and attempted to remove the mosquito net attire, leading to a brief commotion. Reddy questioned the restrictions, especially in the absence of an Assembly session.
Speaking to reporters, Reddy alleged that the mosquito menace had become so severe that residents were considering leaving the city. He warned that the issue was damaging Hyderabad’s brand image and demanded immediate government intervention.
The MLA accused the current Congress-led government of inaction, claiming that diseases like dengue and malaria were on the rise due to the worsening situation. He also criticised the administration for failing to implement preventive measures that were in place during previous regimes.
