UP: Seuta MLA Gyan Tiwari on Thursday said he felt "cheated" after allegations surfaced against his samdhi (the father of his son-in-law), Anuj Trivedi, who has been accused of marrying and allegedly duping 25 women across several states.
Appearing in a Facebook Live session alongside his daughter, Dr Pragya Tiwari, the legislator said he no longer wished to maintain any relationship with the family and demanded strict action against Trivedi.
According to reports, Trivedi, a resident of Chandrawal in Uttar Pradesh's Misrikh area, is currently in jail in connection with a case registered in Mumbai. Several women have accused him of deceiving them by entering into marriages under false pretences between 2016 and 2021.
The MLA said that he had arranged his daughter's marriage to Trivedi's son, Prakhar, in 2024 after receiving recommendations from several prominent people, including former MP Janardan Mishra. He claimed that he had been informed that the family was involved in the real estate business.
Tiwari alleged that he later discovered details of multiple criminal cases against Anuj Trivedi and said he now regretted the decision.
The legislator also claimed that allegations had been levelled against his son-in-law, Prakhar, although no official confirmation has been made regarding those claims.
During the social media interaction, Tiwari demanded the strictest possible punishment for those found guilty. He said that if his daughter wished to pursue legal action, he would support her in filing a complaint.
The MLA added that his daughter, a doctor by profession, was financially independent and that he would ensure she received all possible support.
Meanwhile, several women have reportedly approached district authorities seeking an investigation into Trivedi's assets and business dealings. Investigations into the allegations are continuing.
