Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh, who was previously returned a Lok Sabha ticket by the BJP in 2024, may now contest the Bihar Assembly elections on a BJP ticket. Speculation about his political re-entry has once again gained momentum.
Singh arrived in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Wednesday to promote one of his films and took the opportunity to discuss his potential political future. His wife, Jyoti Singh, has already announced her intention to contest the upcoming assembly elections.
When reporters asked if he would contest the Bihar Assembly elections this year, Singh responded in Bhojpuri, saying, "Of course I'll fight, brother. Once I set my foot forward, I won't step back." Regarding his potential return to the BJP, the Bhojpuri actor remained cryptic, stating that "time will tell" and he couldn't comment further at this moment.
Commenting on his defeat in the Karakat constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Singh reiterated a previous statement that the discussion around his defeat was more prominent than his potential victory.
The BJP had initially offered Singh a ticket from West Bengal's Asansol seat, which he declined citing personal reasons. However, sources suggest that the ticket withdrawal was linked to accusations by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) about his songs allegedly disrespecting Bengali women. Subsequently, Singh contested as an independent candidate from Bihar's Karakat seat.
His entry into the electoral fray resulted in a significant defeat for NDA candidate and Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha. The India alliance's CPI(ML) candidate Raja Ram Singh ultimately won the seat.
The BJP had expelled Singh on May 22, 2024, for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities. Now, rumors of his potential return to the party have resurfaced.
Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal recently commented on Singh's potential return in a television interview, stating, "Dilip Jaiswal is a president who will run the party by keeping everyone together. I have no reservations, and we will consider anyone who wants to work with the party's ideology and help us move forward."
