A startling incident unfolded late Saturday night in Bareilly where a group of car occupants dragged a home guard for over 4.5 kilometers on the bonnet of their vehicle after refusing to stop at a one way traffic checkpoint. The dramatic video of the incident has gone viral, sparking public outrage.
The incident occurred at Chaopula Chauraha, where Home Guard Ajit Kumar was posted on duty during a diversion set up for the Kanwar Yatra. Traffic police and security personnel, including TSI Gajendra, were deployed to enforce one-way rules. As the car attempted to enter the restricted lane, Home Guard Ajit tried to stop it. Instead of halting, the occupants accelerated, forcing Ajit onto the bonnet. The car sped through Chaopula Bridge, past the sugar mill, and took a U-turn near Chaurasi Ghanta Mandir, all while dragging the home guard. Police vehicles chased the car, which even collided with a patrol vehicle during the pursuit.
Ajit eventually jumped off the moving vehicle near Mission Compound ground to save his life. The car fled the scene, and the suspects remain at large.
Police have registered a case and are scanning CCTV footage from traffic cameras and the Integrated Command and Control Center to identify and apprehend the culprits.
