Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), February 19: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated in the state assembly during the Budget Session that Indian cricketer Mohammad Shami took a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela on Wednesday (February 19). However, Mohammad Shami has not taken a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Samajwadi Party Chief Takes Dig

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the UP Chief Minister for his statement in the assembly. On Wednesday, Akhilesh Yadav shared a tweet on his official social media account and said that even the names of cricketers have changed.

Reality Of the Statement

In reality, during the Maha Kumbh, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif had taken a dip in the holy river. Mohammad Kaif, who hails from Prayagraj, participated in the religious ritual.

Reacting to this, Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at Yogi Adityanath, sarcastically saying, "Has the cricketer's name also been changed now?" His remark was aimed at the government's past decisions related to renaming cities and landmarks in Uttar Pradesh.

Stormy Start Of the Budget Session

The Budget Session in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly witnessed a stormy start on Tuesday (February 18) as the opposition members shouted slogans during the joint address of Governor Anandiben Patel. They were demanding the data on the number of deaths which occurred due to the stampedes in the Maha Kumbh 2025 Mela.

Ruckus In Assembly

The Samajwadi Party MLAs stormed into the well in the Vidhan Sabha and shouted slogans of "Governor, Go Back" and also "Release the data on deaths during Maha Kumbh." Due to the ruckus created by the opposition MLAs, Governor Anandiben Patel had to end her speech early.
