A woman from Karnataka recently shared a story about how Bollywood actor Salman Khan quietly supported her during one of the most difficult phases of her life. Speaking on the Voice of Bengaluru hosted by RJ Sowjanya, Reena Raju opened up about her journey through two heart transplants and revealed how Salman stood by her during the ordeal.
Reena Raju recalls Salman Khan’s support
Reena, who is now associated with post-transplant advocacy work, said she first connected with Salman when she was preparing for her first heart transplant. Despite the actor’s busy schedule, she said he responded to her message and even called her on the night of the surgery.
Recalling the moment, she said, “I will get emotional speaking about Salman sir. First of all, let me say, I love him with all my three hearts and my soul. When I was not well and before my first heart transplant, I had his number. So many people must message him, but he replied, and I told him I’m going through a heart transplant. He was shooting in Australia at that time. He called on the night of my transplant and spoke to us for almost two hours. He was very kind to my family and encouraged me to go through it.”
According to Reena, she did not stay in touch with Salman for almost two years after the surgery. When she later messaged him again to share that she had started her own organisation, Light a Life, he remembered her and continued to encourage her.
She finally met the actor in person in 2018 after undergoing her second heart transplant. The meeting took place at Salman’s residence in Mumbai and was initially expected to be a brief interaction. However, it turned into a memorable evening.
Reena recalled, “He has kindness written all over him. We spent the whole night partying at his house, singing and dancing. Four months after my second transplant, I had diabetes and all kinds of medical issues, but I was having a good time. He took us to the Race 3 sets, and we spent the whole day there. He gifted me a Being Human white bicycle because he remembered that I had messaged him about it long ago.”
Salman has been actively involved in charitable work through the Being Human Foundation, which has supported healthcare and education initiatives since 2007.
