Telugu actress Regina Cassandra, last seen in the 2024 film Utsavama alongside Dilip Prakash, recently claimed that Bollywood was previously 'pretty snooty' towards the stars from South industry. She added that things have changed after the COVID pandemic.
In an interview with News 18, the actress said, "Now, they don’t have a choice. Before… pretty snooty. If they knew that you were from the South. Mainly, I don’t know if it was because language was a barrier. But for me, it never was, so. And I don’t look like a South Indian. I don’t know if all of these things worked in my favour."
"But I think now it’s just become, like, they need people from the South, especially after the pandemic hit. They needed actors from the South for a bigger audience," she added.
Currently, the actress is awaiting the release of Vidaamuyarchi alongside Ajith Kumar, which was initially scheduled to be released in January 2025, during the Pongal season, but was postponed and is now scheduled to release on February 6, 2025 in theatres.
Talking about the delay in the film, Regina said, "I have films that haven’t seen the light of day yet, so delays don’t affect me much! Of course, I feel sad when a project is held up, but I’ve learned to detach myself. Once I’ve done my part, it’s out of my hands."
She also has two Hindi films in her pipeline, including Section 108 with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Jaat with Sunny Deol.
Earlier, Regina starred in several Hindi shows like Rocket Boys, Shoorveer, Farzi and Jaanbaaz Hindustan Ke.
