Actor Ronit Bose Roy recently opened up about the hardships he faced during his early days in Mumbai, revealing how he once survived on a single meal a day and had no money left to buy food. In an emotional moment during one of his latest interviews, the actor recalled eating at a famous dhaba outside Bandra station during his struggling days.
"There's a famous dhaba outside Bandra station. Every night I used to have food there, only one meal a day because that's what I could afford. They used to have kali dal and roti one day, and palak paneer with roti the next day… this would alternate, that's all I got," Ronit shared during an interview with Hindi Rush.
"One day, I went there and asked a person who worked there for just two rotis and an onion because I had no money left. But he gave me dal as well and said, 'This is from my side.' That moment stayed with me," he added.
The actor went on to recall how receiving Rs 50,000 for his first film in 1991 felt like a huge turning point. "Uss zamane mein mere paas paise kabhi aaye hi nahi (At that time, I had never really seen money. All the films I did kept me in a hand-to-mouth situation)," he said.
Ronit's journey in Bollywood and TV
Ronit made a promising Bollywood debut with Jaan Tere Naam in 1992, which was a surprise hit and gained him a strong fan following. However, his subsequent films failed to replicate that success. Struggling to find meaningful roles, he soon faded from the limelight.
It wasn't until the early 2000s that he reinvented himself through television, earning immense popularity with shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
