Actor Rajeev Khandelwal, who gained immense popularity for his portrayal of Sujal in the 90s popular TV show Kahiin Toh Hoga alongside Aamna Sharif, recently opened up about his love story with wife Manjiri Kamtikar. He revealed how their marriage announcement appeared in a newspaper, leaving her in tears, as her parents were unaware that she was in a relationship with an 'actor.'
In an interview with Zoom, Rajeev said, "When I was doing Sacch Ka Saamna (2009), I had already said that I wasn’t single — I was seeing someone who wasn’t from the industry. But the media wanted to know more about her. They found her photo on Facebook, and I was told that the news was about to come out. She started crying when she heard that her picture would be revealed in the papers because her parents didn't know she was dating an actor."
Further, Rajeev shared that he tried his best to stop the news from going public—he even called the editor and pleaded, saying, 'Please understand, this is a middle-class family.' However, his request was ignored, and the news was still published. Later, going against his wife's wish, he secretly took Manjiri's father's phone number and sent him a message early in the morning, hoping to inform him before the news broke.
He messaged, 'Sir, this is Rajeev Khandelwal. This is going to happen, but here is my number. If you have any issues or concerns, please call me. I want to be man enough to stand up and not wait.' Rajeev shared that he believed Manjiri's father would understand, as he had chosen to take responsibility rather than run away and to this day, his father-in-law appreciates him for sending that message.
On the work front, Rajeev was last seen in The Secret of the Shiledars, which premiered on JioHotstar in January.
