It seems actress Kangana Ranaut was heavily influenced by Karisma Kapoor’s iconic fashion during her younger years. The actress-turned-politician recently shared a throwback picture, seemingly from her teenage years, in which she can be seen sporting an outfit reminiscent of the style Karisma popularised in her 1990s films.
Kangana is seen wearing a bright lime-green T-shirt layered under denim dungarees, with a pair of blue jeans tied around her waist. The casual, youthful look has a distinctly ’90s vibe, much like Karisma’s memorable fashion choices from that era.
Sharing the picture of her younger self, Kangana wrote, “Who all worshipped original fashionista @therealkarismakapoor in the 90's ha ha!! definitely did.”
Kangana Ranaut has previously opened up about her fascination with fashion from a very young age. In 2020, she shared a childhood picture and recalled how she would “decorate” herself with pearls, cut her own hair, and wear thigh-high socks and heels. She admitted that people in her village would laugh at her unusual fashion choices, but said the experience eventually made her realise that “fashion is nothing but freedom of expression.”
Her early fashion experiments were also influenced by Bollywood. In an interview with Vogue India, Kangana recalled that she was just in Class 6 when Madhuri Dixit’s Dil To Pagal Hai inspired her to wear transparent kurtas with a little bustier similar to the one worn by the actress in the film. Her teachers would reportedly scold her for the outfit, but the anecdote highlights how strongly Bollywood fashion influenced her choices even as a young girl.
Kangana Ranaut Says She Identifies Herself As Gen Alpha
Kangana also took to her Instagram Stories to share a video poking fun at the way Gen Z and Gen Alpha react to trying new things. The clip showed a little child demonstrating the difference between how “normal people” and influencers describe their experience of trying lettuce. The reel was captioned, “Gen Alpha roasting Gen Z is pure gold.”
Sharing the reel on her Instagram, Kangana wrote, “It is official I identify as Gen Alpha.” She further added, “Gen Alpha is like come to the point, no nonsense detected.”
