Kangana Ranaut Says Oscars Select Films That Show India As Sh*thole: 'The Ones They Pick Are Anti-India'

Actress Kangana Ranaut criticised The Academy and stated that it only picks films showing India in a poor light or that are 'anti-India'. "Usually, the agenda they push for India is very different. What they pick is anti-India. It always has to be a film that makes the country look like a sh*thole," she reportedly told a TV channel.

Actress Kangana Ranaut criticised The Academy recently after Laapataa Ladies failed to make it to the final list of the Oscars. She stated that The Academy only picks films that show India in a poor light or the ones that are 'anti-India'.

In an interview with Times Now, Kangana stated, "Usually, the agenda they push for India is very different. Jo Oscar pick karta hai is anti-India."

Without taking names, she further explained, "Even now, the film that is garnering praise, I was very excited about it. I heard the director say that in India, you don’t have the freedom to love the way you want to love because of religious intolerance. I haven’t even seen the film. For the Oscars, it has to be a film that makes the country look bad. Slumdog Millionaire, etc. It always has to be a film that makes the country look like a sh*thole."

Kangana went on to say that her upcoming Emergency is not something which will show India in a negative light. "The West is ready to see how India stands today. I have never cared about these awards. I don’t care about Indian awards or Western awards," she stated.

After multiple delays and setbacks, Emergency is finally set to release in theatres on January 17. In the film, Kangana will be seen essaying the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, and it also marks her debut as a director.

Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudry, Satish Kaushik, and others.
