Kangana Ranaut's Emergency BANNED In Bangladesh Ahead Of Film's Release

Kangana Ranaut's Emergency, based on Indira Gandhi's life, is set for release but has been banned in Bangladesh due to political tensions. A source stated the ban is linked to strained relations between India and Bangladesh rather than the film's content. The film highlights India’s role in the 1971 Bangladesh War, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ties with Gandhi, and his assassination by extremists.

Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut's Emergency, which is based on the life of the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is just a few days away from its release. However, the film has been banned in Bangladesh due to political tensions between the two countries.

According to News 18, a source stated, "The decision to halt the screening of ‘Emergency’ in Bangladesh is tied to the current strained relations between India and Bangladesh. The ban is less about the content of the film and more about the ongoing political dynamics between the two nations."

Indira Gandhi played an active role in helping carve Bangladesh out of Pakistan, with India's involvement in the 1971 war ultimately leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

In Emergency, the Indian Army and Gandhi’s government role in the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence and Indira's ties with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of Bangladesh, who addressed her as "Indira Gandhi Goddess Durga" after India’s victory over Pakistan in the war. He received crucial support from India during the war, which played a significant role in the events of the Emergency.

It also shows Rahman's assassination, which was done at his house by Bangladeshi extremists.

Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled to release on 17 January 2025.

Earlier, the film was slated to release in September 2024, however it was postponed after failing to meet the censorship requirements of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Later, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared Ranaut’s film Emergency for a U/A certification and asked the makers to make 13 changes.
