Television actress Erica Fernandes, who made her television debut with the hit show, Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, alongside Shaheer Sheikh and Supriya Pilgaonkar in 2016, recently opened up about her past violent relationship. She revealed that watching Kriti Sanon's Do Patti on Netflix triggered painful memories of her past and admitted that she chose to stay silent and did not report the incident to the cops.

Appearing on Shardul Pandit's podcast, the actress revealed that she has been single for so long because she struggled to move on from past trauma. She added, "This whole baggage, trauma, experiences, the trust issues... heartbreak, I definitely had, and how it has shaped me into the person I am today. A lot of things have changed for me. I've gone through hardships, ups and downs in my life, but those experiences have shaped me."

Furthermore, Erica revealed that she went through a very violent relationship, which eventually led to physical abuse. She also shared why she was speaking about it now, stating that as an actor, everything becomes news. She shared that she feared being labelled as seeking publicity, which is why women don’t speak out—they get targeted and questioned about why they stayed silent for so long and why they are speaking now.

"If you go to the cops, it’ll be all over the media, and then there’s a media trial. Plus, I wasn't sure what the outcome would be if I went to the police. I don't trust the judicial system that much," added Erica.

She shared that she feared being labelled as seeking publicity, which is why women don’t speak out—they get targeted and questioned about why they stayed silent for so long and why they are speaking now. "It takes time to deal with these matters personally before you are ready to talk about them," she said.

She shared that whenever she watches movies depicting physical abuse, where a man harms a woman, she gets flashbacks of her past relationship. Erica revealed that watching Do Patti took her back to those painful memories.

"To deal with was a different thing. Main khud hi apne aap se deal kar rahi thi, apne situation se. Main kaise is cheez ko or apne aap ko handle karu. I spoke to a few people who knew about it, the moment it happened. That incident left a scar on me," she concluded.
