Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu is facing criticism after promoting a supplement brand on Instagram that claims to contain NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide), which she said helps boost NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) levels - a compound linked to energy and focus.

In her now-controversial post, Samantha, who is also the co-founder of the brand selling the supplement, wrote, "NAD+ declines with age, leading to lower energy, slower recovery, and reduced focus," and claimed that NMN can help reverse this. She added that the supplement she endorsed contains NMN that is "over 99 per cent pure."

Liver Doc slams Samantha

However, her claims were publicly slammed by Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, popularly known on social media as The Liver Doc. Sharing a screenshot of Samantha's post, he wrote, "How science illiterate movie celebrities defraud their millions of followers by selling supplements that do not work at all."

Dr Philips didn't hold back, further calling the supplement company a "fraud" and warning his followers. "Beware of snake oil salesmen, or snake oil saleswomen. They come in various sizes and forms. Be a well-informed consumer. Progress with science and evidence. Listen to real doctors," he captioned his post.

The doctor stated that NMN has been marketed as the "next big anti-ageing pill", but when one strips the hype away and looks at the data, the story collapses fast.

He further wrote, "BOTTOM LINE? If you want to age better, focus on the boring things that actually work diet, exercise, sleep, avoidance of alcohol and tobacco, vaccination. Not on a molecule that can't even clear Phase 2 -quality evidence."

Why Samantha became the co-founder of the brand?

In another post, the actress revealed why she became the co-founder of the brand. "The results spoke for themselves. So I did not just keep taking it. I joined the mission. I became Co Founder of Gataca because I believe in what we are creating. This is not about shortcuts. It is about showing up for your future," she wrote.

Samantha added, "@gataca.in is not just about supplements. It is about the future of performance and longevity, backed by science, driven by purpose, and built on products that are clean, proven, and purposeful. Every product is: ✅ Third party tested ✅ Heavy metal tested ✅ Microbial tested."

Samantha has not reacted to Liver Doc's claims yet.
