The recently released Vicky Kaushal's film Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has ignited discussions about Indian history in school curriculums. After watching the film, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra also questioned the lack of education regarding Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Indian schools.

Taking to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Monday, Chopra wrote, "Watched Chhaava today. Incredible tale of bravery, selflessness and the sense of duty. Genuine question—why were we not taught about Chattrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at all in school? Not even a mention anywhere."

Known for his cricket commentary and candid opinions on various issues, Chopra also expressed surprise at how figures like Akbar, widely praised for his fairness as an emperor, were part of the standard curriculum, while the valiant and courageous life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was seemingly overlooked.

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the eldest son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, played a pivotal role in the Maratha Empire. His leadership and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds made him a revered figure in Indian history, particularly in Maharashtra.

Chopra further asked, "We did learn though how Akbar was a great and fair emperor, and even have a very prominent road called Aurangzeb Road in Delhi. Why and how did it happen??"

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava has emerged to be a hit at the box office as the film has earned Rs 140 crore within just four days of its release. In the film, Vicky essays the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, while Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife, Yesubai Bhosale. The role of Mughal Emperor Aurangzab has been essayed by Akshaye Khanna.

The film also stars Ashutosh Rana and Vineet Kumar Singh.
