Punjab Schools Summer Vacation 2025: As a measure towards tackling the severe heatwave engulfing the state, all Punjab schools including government, private, aided, and recognised schools will shut down for the summer holiday from June 2 to June 30, 2025. The decision was announced by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains via a tweet on X (formerly Twitter).
Heatwave Raises Alarm over Student Safety
The move comes as the temperature in some areas like Bathinda, Patiala, and Amritsar has risen above 44°C, raising health issues, particularly for children who go to school. To alleviate this, schools had previously cut working hours this month to save students from heatstroke.
Instructions for Schools Prior to Vacation Commencement
Schools have been instructed to complete all essential academic tasks including distribution of report cards and preparatory work for the new academic year by June 1. Institutions must ensure that no pending activities carry over into the vacation period.
Parental Advisory During the Heatwave
The Education Department has issued an advisory requesting parents to:
- Keep children indoors during the hottest hours of the day
- Keep students hydrated and prevent outdoor activities
These steps are advocated for to safeguard students from possible heatstroke and dehydration.
Despite schools reopening on July 1, 2025, a final decision will be made on the basis of prevailing weather conditions nearer the date. Temperature trends will be continuously monitored by authorities for the safety of students.

Planned Summer Camps and Language Programs
While academic classes will be suspended, there are schools that hold summer camps during the holidays. These provide students with interactive, enjoyable learning sessions through games, crafts, and learning activities.
Besides, under the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp scheme, the Punjab government has directed that Students of Classes 6 to 10 attend a one-week language exchange programme. While Punjab students will study basic Telugu, their Andhra Pradesh counterparts will learn Punjabi, according to media reports. It is part of a wider push to encourage multilingualism and inter-state cultural awareness.
