Mumbai: Mahaparinirvan Diwas is a day to pay tribute to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his death anniversary. This year marks the 68th anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's passing.

What will be closed?

The Maharashtra government has declared a local holiday for state government and semi-government offices in Mumbai and the surrounding suburban areas. According to information circulated by the Education Department's Cluster Resource Center (CRC) to all schools in Mumbai, it has been confirmed that schools will be closed tomorrow.

A letter from the Deputy Director of Education to all schools and junior colleges in Mumbai states that December 6th, in honor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan Diwas, will be a holiday.

Official

Open Services on December 6

1. All public and private banks in Maharashtra, including the State Bank of India (SBI), will be operating as usual.

2. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will also be open on December 6.

In addition, the Central Railway (CR) has set up holding areas at key stations in Mumbai for the first time to help manage the expected crowds on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's 'Mahaparinirvan Divas' this week. This initiative follows a recent stampede at Bandra Terminus in which large crowds rushed to board a Gorakhpur-bound train.

Every year, thousands of people from all over Maharashtra travel to Mumbai to honor Ambedkar on his death anniversary, as he was cremated at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar's Shivaji Park. To accommodate the increased number of passengers, the Railway will be running special trains.

On the nights of December 5 and 6, the Central Railway will add 12 suburban trains—six on the main line and six on the harbour line. To ensure effective crowd management, separate entry and exit points will be established at Dadar.

Additionally, the Mumbai Traffic Police have released a traffic advisory for commuters, as a large number of devotees are expected to visit Chaityabhoomi. They have announced that traffic management measures will be in effect from 6:00 AM on December 5 until midnight on December 7 to minimize any disruptions.
