The University of Delhi (DU) has made an important amendment to Clause 6 of Ordinance IV. This change allows students who have struggled to pass their elective or optional subjects after several attempts to switch to a new subject. Effective from the 2024-25 academic session, this amendment aims to provide students with increased flexibility and support in fulfilling their academic requirements.

Students were previously not allowed to change optional, elective, or subsidiary subjects during any semester of their undergraduate or postgraduate courses. However, a new provision now allows students who fail a subject multiple times to select a different one. To be eligible, students must fulfill all academic requirements for the new subject, including completing internal assessments, maintaining attendance, and earning the necessary credits.

“In case a student is unable to pass the paper after multiple attempts, he/she may change the optional, elective, or subsidiary subject, register for the new course, and fulfil all academic requirements, including attendance and assessments,” the official notice states.

The amendment does not change other sections of Ordinance IV. Colleges and departments are required to implement this updated policy starting with the 2024-25 academic session.

DU Opens Registration for Placement-Cum-Internship Drive

In a related development, DU has begun registrations for its placement-cum-internship drive, scheduled for December 4 and 5. Organised by the Central Placement Cell (CPC) under the Dean Students’ Welfare, the event will be held at the conference centre, opposite the Botany Department, Gate Number 4, DU.

All bona fide UG and PG students are eligible to participate, with the initiative offering valuable placement and internship opportunities.
