A government teacher in Bihar is handling two jobs to sustain and meet ends - one as a physical education teacher in a government school and other as a Zomato delivery partner. The reason behind this is not uncommon, Amit Kumar, who lives in Bhagalpur, Bihar was left with no choice but to take up two jobs after his salary of Rs 8,000 was left unpaid for more than four months.

His salary was insufficient for him to make ends meet in the first place and to top that - he wasn't getting paid. The dire situation left him with no choice but to borrow money. However, soon the financial crisis were taking a hold at him. It was then that Kumar on his wife's advice joined Zomato.

According to a NDTV report, Kumar passed the government exam after remaining unemployed for more than two and a half years due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Before the crisis, he worked in a private school.

In 2022 -after clearing the government exam in 2019- he finally got hired as a part time physical education teacher.

“Even after two and a half years, salary remains unchanged. The government is not taking the eligibility test either. Other teachers in the school draw a salary of ₹ 42,000, five times over what I get,” Kumar told NDTV. He further said that he is forced to take up two jobs in order to take care of his family and his old mother.

Kumar told NDTV that it was feasible for him since there are no fixed working hours as a delivery partner. He said that he takes classes in the school in morning and then does the job of a delivery partner from evening to midnight.
