Safety and security of women passengers have always been top priority for Western Railway. The railway is continuously striving to facilitate enhanced comfort and security of its passengers. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) plays a vital role in assisting the police to ensure security of women travelling in railways. According to Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, WR’sRPF is ensuring women safety by mobile escorting teams by deploying RPF train escort personnel in 90 long trains with directions to keep special watch on ladies coaches and take action against antisocial elements found in stations and trains. Railway Helpline 139 and GRP Helpline 1512 are available to seek any assistance during journey. Over Mumbai Suburban section, RPF is assisting GRP by monitoring ladies coaches through CCTV and physical presence at platforms. On Mumbai Suburban, CCTV have been installed in 204 coaches including 144 ladies coaches in 47 EMU rakes so far. For receiving immediate assistance in emergencies, Talk Back system has been provided in 63 coaches of 9 EMU rakes.
